Janice Toney Mastoras went home to be with our Lord on August 7, 2017. May her memory be eternal.
A celebration of her life will commence with viewing on August 10, 2017 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Collier Butler Funeral Home, followed by a prayer service. Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery with +Fr. Paul Costopoulos and +Fr. Micah Hirschy officiating.

Mrs. Mastoras was born Janice Roberta Toney in Attalla, Alabama on August 1, 1932, to Erston Street Toney, Sr. and Ola Glenn Toney. Double-promoted in school, she graduated from Etowah High School and went to work for Holy Name of Jesus Hospital, where she studied for, and earned, her license as an X-Ray Technician. She also worked as a Surgical Assistant.

She met her future husband, Spiro G. Mastoras, at his father's Café, The White Palace, in Gadsden. They married on July 4th, 1956, and moved to Birmingham, where Mr. Mastoras was employed by Alabama Power Company.

Mrs. Mastoras was blessed with many talents and gifts. Known for her great cooking, her giving nature and putting the needs of others ahead of herself, her greatest gift, by far, was to bestow warmth and hospitality to all she met.

A member of the Greek Orthodox Church, she taught Sunday school, was very active in the Philoptohos Society and performed volunteer work including the Greek Food Festival and cooking for the homeless.
Mrs. Mastoras was loved by all. Bright and witty, her kind and engaging spirit allowed those she touched to feel very special. She will be sorely missed by her family and, numerous friends and neighbors.
We are comforted knowing that she is at Home with our Lord and Savior, and her husband and family members and friends who went Home before her.

Mrs. Mastoras was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Spiro G. Mastoras, her parents Erston S. Toney, Sr. and Ola Glenn Toney, brother Col. Erston S. (Sue Pittman) Toney, Jr., brother Gary L.Toney, and sister Betty T. (Edward) Winningham and, father and mother in law, Gregory (Rena) Mastoras. She is survived by daughters Angela Mastoras (David) Choiniere and Mary Ann Mastoras Christian, treasured granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Christian; chosen grandsons Case and Jack Choiniere, sister Barbara (Benny) Denson, brother Ottis (Faye) Toney, sister in law Gloria Toney and cherished nieces and nephews, too many to individually list.

Those who desire may send flowers to Collier Butler Funeral Home or, a memorial donation sent to Operation Smile, one of Mrs. Mastoras' favorite charities.
