Obituary


Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, August 14, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Sallie Gentry Johnston, age 90, of Jacksonville, who passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Rev. Mitchell Gibbs will officiate. Burial will be at Alabama City Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Johnston was the eldest daughter of eight children. She was an active member of East Gadsden Baptist Church where she met Kendall Joseph Johnston whom she married in 1950. Mrs. Johnston became a certified LPN in Texas. She sacrificed her life and career for her family and nursing....

Mrs. Johnston was the eldest daughter of eight children. She was an active member of East Gadsden Baptist Church where she met Kendall Joseph Johnston whom she married in 1950. Mrs. Johnston became a certified LPN in Texas. She sacrificed her life and career for her family and nursing. She honored her parents until they went to be with the Lord. She retired from Ft. McClellan Hospital, went back to school to become and RN and then worked at RMC Gadsden where she retired again. She was an active member of Hatcher Ave. Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her husband, Kendall Joseph Johnston; and daughter, Rachel Johnston.
She is survived by her children, Mark Daniel Johnston of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Annette Johnston Grizzard of Attalla, and Lydia Beth Johnston of Jacksonville; grandchild, Jessica Delaney Grizzard; great-grandchild, Braxton Whisenant; brother, Burleson Gentry; and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Millers Hollow Community Church.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm Monday, prior to the service.
